The first Matter of Balance course recently concluded with all nine participants receiving certificates upon course completion.  This class is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have the concern, sustained a fall in the past or have restricted their activities because of concerns about falling.  A Matter of Balance is a structured group intervention that utilizes a variety of activities to address physical, social and cognitive factors affecting fear of falling and to teach fall prevention strategies.  The activities include group discussion, problem-solving, skill building, assertiveness training, videotapes, sharing practical solutions and exercise training.  Another session of Matter of Balance will be offered in late February or early March.  If you are interested in more information or have questions, please feel free to contact the instructor, Lorrissa Dunfee, at the Belmont County Extension Office.
