Pipeline Education

Pipelines play an important role in the development of Ohio’s shale resources. As shale development in Ohio continues to expand, so does the need for pipelines that transport shale gas resources. 
Many landowners may be approached by companies who want to construct a pipeline across their properties. Landowners facing this situation will benefit from understanding and negotiating the

Understanding and Negotiating Pipeline Easements -- This fact sheet explains pipeline easements, and reviews issues and terms for landowners to consider when negotiating an 
easement.

Pipeline Standard and Construction Specifications -- Note: This technical standard has been developed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Soil and Water Resources in order to recommend what is considered best practice for the protection of soil, water and related resources during pipeline construction. These are not to be considered as mandatory requirements unless cited by other laws, rules or legal agreements. Users are encouraged to use them as guidance for development of plans, on‐site practices and implementation or for remediating problem areas.

Seeding Recommendations Following Pipeline Construction -- Following the construction of a pipeline comes the need to seed the area above and adjacent to the pipeline. There are a variety of seeding mixtures available to re-establish vegetative growth, but many landowners don’t know which options are best.
